The Chilean Pine or Araucaria araucana from the Araucariaceae is a medium sized tree that can live up to 1,200 years old. The tree has leaves that look like spikes almost, stiff and spirally around the entire tree which deter herbivory. The tree is native to dry mountain conditions in Chile and Argentina. This tree has been adapted to low soil conditions and salty air.
