Week 2 - Boxwood (Buxus sempervirens) FD1

The Boxwood is a small evergreen shrub from the Buxaceae family. Some important identifying features include small yellow-green female flower surrounded by multiple male flowers with short petioled leather yellow green leaves. The shrub is native to Southern Europe, Northern Africa and western Asia with a habitat of chalky limestone soil and open woodland and rocky hillsides. Some ecological adaptations include being drought tolerant, alkaloids in leaves to prevent infection and getting eaten, evergreen leaves to support low nutrient soil and leaves with red carotenoids to aid against solar radiation.
