Curisoity Week 2 - Ocotillo (Fouquieria splendens)

 

The Ocotillo tree is a desert plant from the Fouquieriaceae family. The tree is native to Southern California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and Northern Mexico with habitats of dry rocky soilds. Some identifying features include gray-green long, spined branches with clustered red flowers in Spring and Summer. An ecological adaptations include being drought tolerant and pollination by hummingbirds and bees.
