Week 8 - Big Leaf Maple (Acer macrophyllum) FD13

The Big Leaf Maple or Acer macrophyllum is an extremely large tree from the Sapindaceae family. The tree has large opposite, lobed maple looking leaves. The tree is native to Coastal Pacific Northwest from Alaska down to Northern California and to both sides of the Cascades. The tree is mostly found in riparian hardwood forests usually near Douglas Firs. The Big Leaf Maple is the largest Maple in North America and I learned from class it has started to be used for maple syrup production.
