Week 8 - Common Lilac (Syringa vulgaris) FD13

The common lilac, or Syringa vulgaris, is a small flowering shrub from the Oleaceae family. It has opposite leaves with entire margins and 4-8 inch panicles with lilac or white flowers. Its habitat is woodland and scrubby areas native to South Eastern Europe. Some ecological adaptations are the tolerance for low nutrient soil and phenolic glycosides in the leaves to deter herbivory defense.
