Week 8 - Persian Ironwood (Parrotia persica) FD14

The Persian Ironwood is a small deciduous tree from the Hamamelidaceae family. The tree is native to Southern Europe to Northern Africa into Iran, and can be found in Georgia and Turkey. The tree has wavey-edge leaves, really little red and yellow flowers and little woody fruits. The tree's berries contain toxin to aid in herbavory defense, but Native American children used to suck on the flowers before the seeds came in and developed toxins.
