The European Hornbeam is a medium sized tree from the Betulaceae family. The tree’s leaves have prominent veins and are doubly serrated. The fruit of the tree is a hard nut enclosed in a leaf bract. The European Hornbeam is native to Southern Europe, Iran, Turkey and Ukraine. The tree is adapted to be very shade tolerant and thins leaves in low light environments.
